Art Marker Techniques: Decreasing Colour Saturation

Art markers are an accessible and malleable medium that is unparalleled in the creative world.  The versatility of alcohol-dye ink means you can create seamless blends between shades and mix colours to create realistic and professional results.

As well as mixing new colours, you can also alter existing hues to create exactly what you’re looking for.

To make any colour look less vibrant, simply layer a grey colour on top. This will decrease the colour saturation and create a tone.

This technique is simple to master but will add an entirely new dimension to your work - take a look at this video to see what a difference creating a tone can make.

With so many hues and grey shades to choose from, why not pick up your favourite Classique or Illustrator art markers and experiment with tone?
