Name: James Monnery
From: Originally from Brighton East Sussex but now living in Blackburn Lancashire.
When did you first start drawing I have been drawing all my life well since a very small child.
What made you start? My inspiration was from family my mother was very much into drawing as was my older sister but I was first taught to draw by an aunt who used to look after me and she was a fantastic oil painter.
Are you a full-time artist or is this a hobby that you love to do? I am a full time artist my day times are spent working full time in my tattoo studio in Blackburn and my evening and weekends are spent doing my illustrations where I will work on my own pieces and commission drawings.
Can you show us the piece of work you’re most proud of and tell us why? My favourite piece is below, I first think of this as my favourite piece as this was what changed things for me as an illustrator and opened up the door for my own theme of which has done me so proud as far getting myself out there is concerned, I have had a lot of work published in the past for tattoo design companies but this was for myself.
What’s your top tip for marker art? My top tip for using Spectrum Noir markers is simply layering, having the patience to put a drawing down and let the ink dry and the then go in with another layer. I do this with all my work and is great for effect and subtle of extreme blending which in my mind makes the piece.
What is your favourite Spectrum Noir product? My favourite Spectrum Noir products are the illustrator markers which are a real game changer and can anyone achieve something to be proud of with a little patience.
Which Spectember theme/prompt have you chosen and why? I chose the metalics to use for my piece just as it was good excuse to use these awsome pens and I love the different effect they can give, the piece I did of the lady I used my illustrationrs to give and example of the rich color blending that can be achieved
