Adding Detail with Pencils

We’ve got a fantastic bit of inspiration to share today! Kay Carley, a member of the Crafter’s Companion UK team, has generously shared two examples of how she colored images first with her markers, then added depth and details with her blendable pencils!

To color Ashleigh:

Markers:
Skin: TN2, FS3, FS2 and FS6 for blush
Hair: TN8, TN7, TN2 then add EB8 to create some individual darker strands
Dress, scarf and bag: BG8, BG6, BG4 and BG1; for the white fur: BG4, BG1 and EB1
Shopping: BG10, BG8, BG6, BG4, BG2 and BG1, GB10, GB8, EB2 and EB1, Blender

Pencils:
Skin: 089 and 005 (Essentials)
Hair โ€“ 120 (Essentials)
Dress, shopping and shading: 120, 119, 117, 112 and 009 (Essentials), 107 (Primaries)

To color Autumn:

Markers:
Skin: TN2, FS3, FS2 and FS6 for blush
Hair: GB10, GB8, EB2 and EB1 — then go back in with GB10 to create some individual darker strands
Coat: EB5, GB10 and GB8
Boots and handbag:GB10, GB8 and EB2
Jeans and eyes: BGR3, BGR1 and blender
Top: BGR1 and EB2
Shopping bags: PP3, FS3 and FS2; PP3, FS6 and FS2
Flowers and grass: PP5, FS6 and GB8; CG1, DG2, DG4 (grass)

Pencils:
Skin: 089 and 005 (Essentials)
Eyes: 065 (Primaries)
Hair โ€“ 087 (Primaries)
Coat: 104 (Primaries)
Boots and Handbag: 087 (Primaries)
Jeans: 065 (Primaries), 117 (Essentials)
Top: 112 (Essentials)
Shopping bags โ€“ 009 (for peachy/pink bag) from Essentials and 034 (for pinky bag) from Primaries
Grass: 058 (Essentials)
Shading: 117 and 112 (Essentials)
